Protesters call for “living rent” to be introduced across Brighton and Hove

More than 2,500 people have backed plans for a “living” rent and reforms to private rented housing in Brighton and Hove.

The campaign was sparked by private tenants, who claim they were exasperated at the spiralling cost of rented accommodation and lack of secure housing.

Before presenting a petition to councillors, the group claimed nearly a third of homes in Brighton and Hove are privately rented with an average monthly rent of £1,537 for a 3 bedroom house.

Latest TV’s Mhairi Beveridge spoke to them.
