Chewing The Fat: Selina Thompson
Like ‘The Vagina Monologues’ for fat people. Don’t worry; she has reclaimed the ‘F’ word. The very engaging Selina Thompson explores her body issues at different stages of her life. It’s about how she related to food, and how food affected her relationship with the world. She delivers a funny and heartfelt script with a Bacchanalian use of words and impressive imagery. However, all of this rumination doesn’t dig deep enough to reveal much psychological truth. The audience may tire of her continually covering herself (and the front row) in food … it starts to feel self-indulgent (aptly) and it puts you off your food (ironically).
