Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

Like the name of the latest album they are showcasing suggests, this outfit really do ‘give people what they want’. The band that provided the back-drop to Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’ album really deliver; super tight rhythm section, driving congas, funky horns and glorious backing vocals. Following the old school singer introductions, Jones commanded the stage with her presence, her moves, and of course her powerful soul stirring vocals. All this from a lady who has recently recovered from cancer! Stand out tunes were the Motown-esque ‘Stranger to my happiness’ and the stomping sister-funk of ‘People don’t get what they deserve’. These guys don’t just recreate the 60s funky soul sound, they breathe new life into it.
