BREMF: Torino – Colin Scobie (violin) and Tom Foster (harpsichord)

On entering Italy, every Grand Tourist visited Turin but probably only scholars now are conversant with the baroque works of Giovanni Somis, Felice Giardini and Gaetano Pugnani, its virtuoso violinists. Scobie and Foster are certainly specialists, playing from facsimile scores (almost illegible) and with a seemingly relaxed familiarity. This matched the atmosphere of the venue which was unseasonably warm and close. Great communicators, they made fiendishly difficult passages sound effortless and brought these works to life. They really captured the adventurous spirit of BREMF, by opening up a whole new area of music to a wider and very appreciative audience.
