Latest Sport: Footie mad

Hello sports friends! It’s been the international break from the usual football on the telly, so this week we’ve seen England in action on a couple of occasions and we saw Rooney get his 100th cap. Due to work commitments, I only managed to watch the first half of the match against Slovenia, and it was absolute mind blowingly … boring. Typically, as soon as I stopped watching, all the goals started flooding in and England seemingly put on a decent performance in the second half and are now top of our group in the European championship qualifiers. Well done boys!

On to the local stuff … this week on Latest Sport, we featured our usual programmes and we were also filming out on location at The Dripping Pan – home to Ryman Premier club, Lewes FC. The game we went to watch was the Sussex senior cup tie with Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton played their development squad and a few youngsters, and players such as Shamir Fenelon made an appearance for the side. I was there watching the match and I have to say, Lewes by far were the more dominating team on the night. They had the most of the chances, the most shots on target, and the most set pieces to create a bit of danger with. They just couldn’t seem to put any of those chances away and were then left 1–0 down after Brighton converted one of their only shots on target of the match into the back of the net.

Fenelon and Wiltshire combined for the goal. Lewes didn’t let the one goal deficit drag them down, though. They still looked most threatening going forward and the more likely team to score, and then with the final kick of the 90 minutes, Tom Davis put away a free kick to send the cup tie in to extra time. The goal gave Davis a bit of confidence and in the first few minutes of added time, he scored an absolute worldy to give Lewes the 2–1 lead. And that’s where it stayed; Lewes qualify for the next round and in our post match interviews, assistant manager Danny Bloor told us how pleased he was with the performance from the lads. He’s hoping to carry on their four match unbeaten run into the league. They did, however, pick up some injuries in the game, so Lewes look to add to their squad and make some changes to their starting 11 going in to their next match. Best of luck to the Rooks and a speedy recover to the injured players!

In other Latest Sport news, we seem to have acquired a new member to the team … well, sort of. In a bid to compete with Kim Kardashian West in ‘breaking the internet’, Joseph’s legs have managed to form their own Twitter account, and are gaining followers from all walks of the land. It’s a bit of an in-joke, but Joseph tends to get his legs out far more than you’d want from a ginger bloke in his mid-20s. And yes, even in this cold weather we are experiencing now, the shorts are still continuing to make an appearance on a regular occasion.

You may have seen them on your TV screens in the last week as a main feature in Natalie’s exercise class, that we are now featuring as a regular segment on Latest Sport. This is where the three boys take part in different exercise classes each week and film it for your entertainment value. I’m being told that in the next couple of weeks they’ll be doing a ‘planks and lunges’ class, so no doubt Joseph and Joseph’s legs will be out in full force for that one!

In the meantime, though, I’m still carrying out my ‘one run a week’ for November, and so far it’s 0 in 3, so I’m fighting fit! (Not.) I really need to up my game or I’ll end up as the chubby one around the Christmas table this year. Yep, there it is … the dreaded ‘C’ word. Christmas! It’s happening people, and it’s happening fast. It’s only a few weeks ‘til Christmas now and we will be treating you to lots of special Christmas shows in the coming weeks.

Tune in to Latest TV on channel 8 on freeview for all of your best local TV, news and sport.

‘Til next week sports fans!
