Offices and 65 homes planned for Hove corner site

A housing association plans to build 65 homes on a corner site in Hove.

Hyde has applied for planning permission to put up a five-storey building containing 59 flats and ground floor offices.

It also wants to build six terraced houses, each three storeys high, with two parking spaces each.

The site, in Goldstone Lane on the corner of Newtown Road, will also include a 41-space basement car park. Part of the site is derelict and part of it is currently listed as occupied by a business called Chrome Productions.

The application, which was registered earlier this month, is due to be decided by Brighton and Hove City Council by Tuesday 3 February.

Hyde said that the main building would range from three storeys in height to five storeys after the existing buildings were demolished.

The housing association said that 40 per cent of the homes would be classed as “affordable”, adding that the development “would complete the street scene” in Goldstone Lane.

Currently there are homes on only one side of the road on the opposite side to the old factory buildings.

Further up Goldstone Lane opposite the line of houses was where fans went through the Goldstone Ground turnstiles to stand on the old East Terrace to watch Brighton and Hove Albion.

Hyde is currently marketing the remaining unsold flats from the 71 that it is building near by on the corner of Goldstone Crescent and Old Shoreham Road, opposite Hove Park.
