Jon Hopkins

Electronic stabs along with distinct visual punches on a large screen was a uniquely technical opening song, and Hopkins then moved on to a delicate piano number. The heavy-then-light formula was steadily adhered to throughout most of the evening, creating a strange dynamic between moving ambient songs with poignant visuals and then veering back into dinner party techno. The crowd tried having it large in spite of the curious decision to have the gig seated, resulting in sweet, endearing boogying and soft revelry in the stalls and balcony. Some fun and melodic moments but the gig was too stop-start to lift off.
