Comedy: Good tradition
There’s more to Lewes entertainment than fireworks and effigies …
Lewes has many traditions, old and new. From burning effigies that catch the attention of the national news and Twittersphere, to blowing up parking metres as a protest against the introduction of said parking restrictions, and many more. It’s clear to see that Lewes has its own character it stays true to when it, as a town, does anything. So it would hardly be a surprise to find that there is a cracking and quite unique comedy night that arrives in Lewes every month, combining a great evening of professional comics with all manner of other treats.
Comedy At The Con is the brainchild of actor, writer and The Ornate Johnsons member, Dave Mounfield. Regularly hosted by Mr Mounfield, it’s worth arriving early to make sure you have a seat – and a ticket – to this popular and frequently sold out affair.
The Christmas Comedy At The Con celebrations are pulling out all the stops. Not only is there the promise of a sketch or two from Dave Mounfield and Neil Masters, there’s also a fabulous comedy Powerpoint lecture from a mystery guest, and an awesome extended full hour set from Andrew Maxwell headlining proceedings. Boom!
And because it’s Lewes, and all of the magic that entails, you’ll also find competitions, prizes, and a now traditional Crimbo Raffle as part and parcel of this festive celebration.
Doors are at 7.30pm, but this being a very civilised and bespoke affair, anyone can wander into the club for a drink from 4pm in the afternoon. It’s an earlier start than usual this month, with proceedings kicking off at 8pm rather than an hour later, but with so much to enjoy – and it being a school night, even in Lewes – this really is a most civilised start to a raucous evening of festive laughter and unusual comedy.
