Latest Sport: A Sterling Debut

Hey sports fans! We are now fully immersed in December and I think it’s fair to say that most of us are feeling the Christmas spirit! If you aren’t, then bah humbug to you!

I visited Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland last week, and it was an absolute festive feast of fun and frolicking and yummy food. It was a bit of a work out, too. All that walking, and lifting my arm back and forth from my mouth to feed myself copious amounts of mulled wine. My bicep (non plural), is looking good this week.

In terms of our local sport, we all got a bit excited a couple weeks ago with the arrival of Darren Bent on loan from Aston Villa. The out and out goal scorer also seemed thrilled to be playing for the Albion, saying in his very first interview with the club that we play “like a premier league side”. He didn’t let the fans down either. He made a sterling debut by netting his first goal for the club shortly after half time in the match against Fulham. Unfortunately, it was just one of those days for us. Bent’s former club got extremely lucky late on with a deflection that saw them walk away with three points. I personally felt hard done by with that one. I was at the game and there were plenty bums on seats supporting our boys, and the crowd all seemed positive prior to the match. Just a shame we yet again didn’t get the result we deserved.

Our next game at The Amex sees us facing Millwall in an evening kick off on Friday 12 December. Notorious for a bit of a rowdy crowd, let’s hope it’s not only a safe match, but a match where we can go away with a few goals and a few points. Three to be precise.

Pre the meeting we had with Fulham, we had a great day on the Matchday Breakfast sofa with guests including Dick Knight, Ian Hart, Gareth Davis and Andy Delby-Welsh. Getting life long president of Brighton and Hove Albion, Dick Knight, on the show, was a real privilege and it was so interesting to hear his thoughts on the current squad and management, but also the stories from history that him and Harty reflected upon. Dick approved of the appointment of Bent, but was disappointed that Craig Mackail Smith has gone back to Peterborough. He thought like we did, that they would have partnered up well, but that obviously wasn’t to be.

Don’t miss Matchday Breakfast every Saturday where we always feature great sporting guests and have a bit of a giggle too, from 9–11am, and then repeated straight after from 11am–1pm (for those of you that like a lie in).
