Alabama 3

With their annual visits now a firm fixture of the winter calendar, the well-oiled capacity crowd were treated to a celebratory 90 minute-plus set from the Brixton based rabble rousers. They showed why they remain so revered, with old favourites reworked and newer songs from the W.O.M.B.L.E. albums given a boost of sass and soul from female vocalist Aurora Dawn. Their unique blend of techno, country and gospel was as infectious as ever and, with Larry and D Wayne preaching and testifying over Nick Reynolds’ harmonica riffs and some amazing keyboard skills, the show was a righteous and riotous sermon from start to finish. Hallelujah!
