Comedy: Very good cheer
Merry Christmas! Now … welcome back to the fold and head out to the best stand-up night all year
Merry Christmas! All the happiness and good wishes to you, as we all break up from work for a few days – or a few weeks – to dash around the country to see loved ones, deliver gifts, eat too much and get one step closer to embracing and owning the ‘dad dancing’ we’ve been enjoying in the comfort of our family homes. After sinking into the sofa so much you’ve found ‘old money’ in your limb creases, look forward to the time when you return to your own home, your own pals, and a most awesome night of comedy.
Comic Boom always has a great vibe to it, with a nationally recognised top quality headliner (past showstoppers have included Sarah Millican, Nick Helm, Hal Cruttenden, Iain Sterling, Seann Walsh and more), as well as a selection of hand-picked support slots made up of up-and-coming comedic talent from across the country, but with at least a couple based locally. As such, it’s a monthly safe pair of hands at Komedia, presenting a friendly and respected comedy night at the end of each month of both the next big things and those already appearing on television and radio. And then there’s the December Comic Boom, which takes it to another level entirely.
As a hot bed of comedy talent and appreciators it has long been said by comedians that Brighton is a favourite destination for them to come to play. There’s something of a community, and never is this more apparent than at December’s Comic Boom. Turn up with friends or turn up on your own, it’s a warm welcome all round as everyone still has their family Christmas buzz on, with added ‘yay!-I’m-home!’ sprinkles. It’s just the most magical night. Not least because in recent years there’s even been a real danger of snow obstacles en route to give it that extra winter party zest.
This year’s event will have the ever-brilliant Zoe Lyons headlining proceedings (hopefully going into delightful detail about the excesses of the season, as she does so well), with Mark Simmons on MC duties, and a smorgasbord of great support acts, as well as rumours of a special guest dropping in.
So, in conclusion; Merry Christmas to you. and once you’re done Christmassing, welcome home and come and join the fun. It’ll be a blast.
