Guide dog attacked in Portslade street

A guide dog has been attacked and injured in a Portslade street.

Sussex Police officers are investigating the incident which happened at a bus stop in Mill Road.

The force said: “At about 10.45am on Thursday 6 November a 52-year-old local woman who is severely sight impaired was waiting at a bus stop in Mill Road, Portslade, with her Bernese mountain guide dog, which was lying down.

“Another woman with four dogs, all described as ‘Staffy/bull terrier’ types on leads, was walking past when one of the dogs, described as nearly black, bit the guide dog on the face, causing a puncture wound.

“The woman did not stop and walked on with her four dogs.”

PC Alastair Jamesson said: “The guide dog was treated for the injury at a local vet and is recovering but both the dog and the owner were deeply traumatised by this most unpleasant experience and this has left her reluctant to go out.”
