Brighton and Hove’s mayor pays tribute to Hove Great Escapee

On Tuesday January 6 our city lost one of it’s true heroes.

Bernard Jordan was a veteran of World War Two who took part in the D Day landings.

But instead of retiring gracefully, he maintained his fighting spirit – so much so that he performed his own great escape to attend the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings last year.

But yesterday it was announced the former mayor of Hove had died.

We spoke to current mayor Brian Fitch about Bernard’s contribution to our city.
