Art Deco: Decoratif

Calling all style lovers to Brighton’s Thistle Hotel for the Art Deco Fair

The next Decofairs will be held on Sunday 15 February from 10am to 4pm, at the elegant and central new venue the Thistle Hotel on Kings Road, Brighton.
The Art Deco style spanned the period between World Wars I and II, peaking in the late 1920s and early ’30s. It emphasized form as much as function and focused on glamour and opulence. Art Deco fixtures were futuristic for their era, with polished, shiny materials such as chrome and brass, with many reflect a strong geometric influence.
As the Great Depression deepened, Art Deco became more and more popular, providing a sense of escapism for a world that desperately needed it. It quickly became a popular style for interior decorating. Art Deco went on to have a massive impact on popular culture that is still being felt today.

Once out of fashion for a few decades, Art Deco is now experiencing a resurgence and period Art Deco pieces as well as reproductions are highly sought after.
Art Deco was most popular in America and Europe, it affected all areas of the decorative arts and was considered very glamorous, elegant, functional and modern.
If you like bold and flashy jewellery, dressing as a flapper or all things chrome, you’ll want to visit Decofairs and have a look at the style that made Miami South Beach so famous.
To bring Art Deco flair into your home, you can start off with bold wallpaper, and add the bold use of materials in glass, shiny fabrics, metallic paints and mirrors.
