This week a brief glimpse at a few theatrical treats

This week at The Theatre Royal Brighton the winner of over 30 theatre awards is Alan Bennett’s masterpiece The History Boys.
Recently voted the nation’s favourite play in a national survey the action is set in the 1980s, and is a comic drama about adolescent schoolboys. An unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-formers in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. The History Boys runs until this Saturday.

It’s time to get ready, slap those thighs and mosey over to Eastbourne to catch Jody Prenger in Calamity Jane later this month.
The Watermill Theatre have produced many acclaimed shows including Sweeney Todd and Sunset Boulevard, and now return with a new production of this classic musical with a cast of multi-talented actor/musicians, this brand new production gets to the heart and soul of the musical.

Calamity can outrun and outshoot any man in Deadwood, so can the excellent Jodie Prenger!
With an Oscar nominated score that includes The Black Hills Of Dakota, The Deadwood Stage and the Award winning song Secret Love, don’t miss this new production which blows into Eastbourne for one week only. Calamity Jane is at Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre from 24 February.

Forgive me for sounding Ostentatious, no that’s Austentatious, as in Jane Austen.
One of the undisputed comedy hits of 2014 was this improvised play in the inimitable style of the great author that is spun from audience suggestions as it develops live on stage.
Declared by the Guardian to be one of the most enjoyable shows of the Edinburgh Fringe – pop on your corsets and knee breeches and head down to The Old Market on 20 February.

Finally, a curve ball. If there’s someone you want to sweep off their feet this Valentine’s day there’s no better place to do it than in the Corn Exchange for their loved up ceilidh.
Led by the ever popular Sussex Pistols, their resident caller will help you through the dance steps.
Brighton’s most barnstorming barn dance promises great music, great fun and love in the air this Valentine’s weekend.
