The Blues Band
They’ve been going a while (36 years to be exact), but The Blues Band are still as relevant as ever. Showcasing the blues and their skills effortlessly, ploughing a trough well trodden but seldom executed as well. The set list was a mish mash of the band’s solo output, old album tracks, blues standards (Howling Wolf, Sonny Boy Williams) and newer tracks. Singer Paul Jones (sickening youthful, he’s 104 you know) could, if it wasn’t for his modesty, claim to be the best harmonica player alive. The rest of the band (Tom McGuiness, Gary Fletcher, Dave Kelly, Rob Townsend) lock in and just groove away. All have their moments in the spotlight and why not, they are that good.
