The Reduced Shakespeare Company: The Complete History Of Comedy

It’s one thing reducing the works of Shakespeare into a two hour show; it’s quite another reducing the history of comedy. But our three American friends pull it off … just. In truth, the show needed an audience, and unfortunately a wet Saturday afternoon did nothing for numbers. However, those who braved the climate were treated to an intelligent, educational and above all funny take on comedy’s history – starting with our Neanderthal cousins, through classic Greek, Tudor theatre, variety hall and bang up to date with some contemporary references. The small bit of improv for me fell flat, but above all you couldn’t really fault the content.
