Regina Cæli – BREMF Consort of Voices, Deborah Roberts (director)

These substantial works by the Tudor composers John Sheppard and Robert White made a glorious mixture of joyful, meditative, lively and lamenting masterpieces. The voices too were excellently balanced. Deborah Roberts’ choir has grown in numbers so that it can safely split into varied groups, each fully matched to the demands of this complex and fascinating repertoire. The pure treble sound of the sopranos is well matched in clarity by the warm sonorities of the altos and basses and some very brave, clean-sounding tenors. If the angels are singing in heaven then they will certainly be using these scores!
