Glass Animals

Sound quality can make or break a gig and Glass Animals were sadly smashed to smithereens by a drastically out-of-whack balance in the mix. So much so, in fact, that despite (unheard, no doubt) repeated pleas from the audience to address and adjust, the gig joyrode on, relentless, roughshod and regardless. No ‘peanut butter vibes’, no ‘tipsy topsy slurs’ and certainly no woozy haziness, to steal a bunch of the band’s lyrics that so aptly describe their swoonsome studio sound. Instead, an innard-shifting, seemingly unending bass solo and a lead singer mouthing words that barely became sounds. Was Dave Bayley singing “I can’t take this place”, or “I can’t take this bass!”?
