Spring Concert – Brighton Chamber, Jane Money (director)

This Spring concert consisted mainly of Lenten music. The 16 part ‘Crucifixus’ by Antonio Caldara, sung with the choir arranged behind the audience, was a challenge. A selection of soloists from the choir managed much better with Pergolesi’s ‘Stabat Mater’ and in particular soprano Rachel Farago shone in the daringly beautiful ‘O vos omnes’ by Tim Nail, who was also playing the continuo part.

A Romantic interlude of Brahms’ ‘Alto-Rhapsody’ featured Jane Money’s warm contralto. The programme concluded with Morten Lauridsen’s passionate ‘Lux Aeterna’, galvanized by the exquisite solo oboe of Clare Worth who joined the Brighton Chamber String Ensemble.
