Stage: How Sweet it is

Motown’s Greatest Hits boogie into the Hawth

In 1959, Berry Gordy Jnr had a dream, and with a loan of $800 he started Motown records in Detroit. In the 60s the production and songwriting talents of Holland, Dozier and Holland dominated the Detroit sound, the sound of young America, and they both penned and produced numerous hits for The Four Tops, and many more artists of the day.

Tamla Motown was also the home of The Temptations, who, along with The Four Tops, have two of the longest and distinguished careers to date in popular music, going back to 1954 when the ‘Tops’ performed at a high school graduation party, and until fairly recently still consisted of the original four members. The hits continued throughout the 60s, into the 70s, the 80s, and even the 90s as Motown became a genre of music all of its own, and had people dancing ‘All Night Long’ all over the world.

On Tuesday 19 May that’s exactly what’s in store at The Hawth – Motown’s Greatest Hits – How Sweet It Is – will have you dancing to the classics of Motown Legends The Four Tops, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, The Isley Brothers, The Jacksons, Stevie Wonder, Edwin Starr and many more.
