Banff Film Festival
The festival consisted of eight visually stunning films with a mountain theme, targeting adventure-loving, outward-bound, Bear Grylls wannabees. This could have been a massive guilt trip for us couch potatoes, as most of the films lionised hive-five’ing adrenaline junkies narrowly cheating death; being the first to ascend (or hurtle from) a peak makes them feel like gods. By contrast a Tibetan monk has achieved the same status by founding an Himalayan orphanage. Another told of rock-climbing hippies discovering the mother lode of illicit Columbian pot in Yosemite. There are many ways to get a high in the mountains. Inspiring spires!
