Blithe Spirit
It was a delight to see Noel Coward’s play brought to this tucked away stage, with his words marking a testimony for his enduring popularity. This high-spirited comedy (pun intended) was such fun, with Cicely Whitehead’s Elvira beautifully full of glee and barely suppressed mischief, and Patti Griffiths’ Madame Arcati threatening to steal the show on a number of occasions such was her eccentric flamboyance and verve. This was, though, an ensemble and as such it was the details from each actors and the interactions between them all – from tantrums to flirting – that was enchanting. A mention must also be made of the staging, which helped us all to believe in ghosts a little more.
