Stage: A murder, love & comedy filled summer season

Drama at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park Theatre

Eastbourne Theatre’s summer brochures have hit the doormats of over 46,000 local homes and the box office phones are already ringing off the hook with patrons clamouring to book tickets for the bumper season of Drama at the Devonshire Park Theatre! The Devonshire Park Theatre prides itself on staging a solid season of great drama and the programme is just as popular with people from outside Eastbourne as it is with those who live there. Which is why booking is so essential.
The season starts with Business of Murder (12 -16 May) and it sets the scene for a sensational summer of murder mysteries. This acclaimed psychological thriller enjoyed a successful 9-year run in the West End and certainly provides an atmospheric start.

Legendary Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap (8 – 13 June) returns to Eastbourne, this time to the Devonshire Park. A group of people gathered in a country house cut off by snow discover, to their horror, there is a murderer in their midst. Who could it be? Will the revelation of each of their sordid pasts aid you to guess the motive before the killer is finally revealed!?
The popular summer murder mysteries continue with the Murder in the Park season – four thrillers played over four weeks. Stone Cold Murder (23 – 27 June), Sherlock Holmes & the Ripper Murders (30 June – 4 July), Murder with Love (7 – 11 July) and Portrait of Murder (14 – 18 July). And you can book all four for just £16 each!
If comedy drama is more your thing Alan Ayckbourn’s Round and Round the Garden runs nightly from 23 July – 8 August. Follow the complicated (and at times comedic) relationships of Norman, his in-laws and the local vet over one Summer weekend in a country house.
The-End-of-the-Affair
Satisfy a thirst for love stories with war time dramas The End of the Affair (2 – 6 June) and Flare Path beginning a UK tour in Eastbourne 18 – 29 August. Immerse yourself in the decadence of America’s jazz age with The Great Gatsby (8 -12 September) before it too sets off on tour.
This is just a selection of the shows that are heading to Eastbourne this summer.
