Buses: Get on board
Brighton & Hove Buses the only way to travel
This week: Lewes
Things to do and see in Lewes
Lewes is a picturesque historic town in East Sussex located within the expansive South Downs National Park. From serving as a stronghold during the Norman invasion of England in 1066 to being the home of the largest and most popular bonfire festival in the United Kingdom, it’s a town that has a fascinating timeline of cultural landmarks and history.
Filled with weaving roads and backstreets, Lewes rewards intrepid explorers with access to small independent retailers, antiques and bookshops. The All Saints Centre acts as an assortment of the arts, holding live performances and cinema screenings, whilst the numerous museums and farms give visitors an insight into the unique nature of the town.
There’s a farmers’ market on the first Saturday of every month for local fare.
And after you’re done for the day, why not visit the local pubs and enjoy the products of Harvey’s Bridge Wharf Brewery, the last surviving Victorian brewery in Lewes?
