Carl Donnelly and Matt Winning
Edinburgh previews are normally tough gigs – and even harder when one member of the audience has a nap half way through.
It was not a fair reflection on the work of Carl Donnelly and Matt Winning though.
Both are among a crop of young talented funny people.
But both have very different approaches.
Donnelly is very open and candid – relying on anecdotal tales and his warmth of character to shine through.
Winning is more in-your-face – a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it type of comedian, with razor sharp writing combining oddities such as Dutch pancake competitions, working for Robert Mugabe and how to find your perfect bin.
Rude audience members aside, this was a good start – but there’s still work to be done before they board the sleeper train going north of the border.
