The Ronnie Scott All Star Quintet

This wasn’t just a concert, it was a lesson in the history of modern jazz in the UK. Which to be fair centres on two people: not just the aforementioned R.S. but also Pete King who jointly set up and managed the famous jazz club in 1959 until their deaths. It’s a fascinating story and the show does it justice with film, photos and anecdote aplenty. The music shone a light through the different jazz styles that have graced the Ronnie Scott stage over the years; a touch of Zoot Sims, a dash of Miles Davis, a splosh of Bill Evans. The players ability was breathtaking and with precision control. An extremely pleasant evening.
