Dead Simple
Based on Peter James’ best selling crime novel, Dead Simple is based in and around the Brighton area. Luckily the stag night prank ‘whodunnit’ plot is well crafted and the twist is quite nice (suffice to say there’s not much I can reveal without a massive spoiler alert). I suspect some of the scenes have been diluted for a theatre audience used to Agatha Christie which it has clearly tried to cater for however. The book lovers may be disappointed, central character Detective Superintendent Roy Grace may never live up to the image in your head and will thus spoil your enjoyment. Tech-wise it is intricately detailed and for me there were some basic actor positions/blocking that could have been better but the cast (waifs and strays of soap land) did a fine job.
