Man charged with murder of Sussex pensioner
A 34-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Donald Lock in Findon.
Matthew Daley, of St Elmo Road, Worthing, was charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place today (Sunday 19 July).
The 79 year old victim was stabbed multiple times after a suspected road rage incident on the A24 on Thursday night. He had recently been given the all-clear from cancer.
His family released a heartfelt tribute on Friday saying:
“He was full of energy having recently been given the all clear from cancer. Not only was he passionate about cycling but he had also been supporting Brighton and Hove Albion since the 1940s and was a season ticket holder.
“He loved travelling the world with his wife Maureen and he adored his family. He and Maureen had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
“Don leaves son Andy, daughter Sandra, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren with the sixth great grandchild due later this year. Don had lived in Worthing for 55 years and was a popular member of the community.
“He was hugely loved by his family and friends and could often be called upon for his cycling or travel advice. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed.”
Yesterday, a minutes silence was held in honour of Mr Lock at Brighton and Hove Albion’s friendly match against Lewes.
Meanwhile the solicitors where Mr Lock for 43 years issued a message of condolence on their website:
“As a member of this firm he was a central figure in developing our reputation as a caring and enjoyable place of work – so much so that many of the staff members who joined the firm after him stayed until retirement or are still with us. Don’s continuing commitment to the firm was epitomised by his unfailing and cheerful attendance at every staff Christmas party in the 14 years since his retirement, renewing his friendships with former colleagues and making new friendships with our current staff.”
“We are all deeply saddened by the news of Don’s death and pass our heartfelt and sincere condolences to Maureen Lock, Sandra and Andrew and to Don and Maureens’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren at this dreadful time.”
Daly has been remanded in custody and will appear at Crawley Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday July 20th).
