Sun Kil Moon

Singer songwriter Mark Kozelek’s performance style was endearing, playing songs at a slow pace from a breadth of his output including collaborative work with Jimmy Lavalle and Desertshore. The generous 2 and a half hour long set ensured that the audience had plenty of material from the superb, confessional recent albums; a raucous, carefully textured version of ‘The Possum’ was the evening’s highlight. The band were tight and smooth, and good spirits in trying songs they had never played before in the encore when taking requests. Kozelek jokingly moaned at the start that it was too light, and the atmosphere did indeed improve as the the sun went down; it was a relaxed, enjoyable set that was perfect for fans, although the uninitiated’s mind might have wandered.
