Reunited for a ‘farewell’ tour ten years after they disbanded, Dean Wareham’s indie, dream pop project kicked off with a swirl of chorus pedals and slacker attitude on opener ‘Slide’. There was a definite Lou Reed feel to the performance with ‘Chinatown’ recalling the Velvets and ‘Lost In Space’ lifting ‘Sweet Jane’s’ melody. They ditched the set list for a few audience requests and Wareham shared extended guitar solos with Stan Demeski throughout a relaxed back catalogue set that featured shades of Americana, Beach Boys harmonies and Britta Phillips’ psychedelic disco bass lines on the romping set closer. A welcome return.
