With our Discovery ticket, unique and picturesque Sussex sights and secrets are just one bus ride away. Today, we’re highlighting one of the most beautiful manor houses still standing in England, Penshurst Place. Built in 1341, Penshurst Place has been described as “the grandest and most perfectly preserved example of a fortified manor house in all England”. Experience the charm and majesty of the manor through a tour of 10 rooms open to the public including the impressive medieval Baron’s Hall.

After you’ve seen the art and architecture inside, why not explore the vibrant, beautiful gardens and grounds? The estate is one of the largest privately owned in the South East of England with 2,500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland. There’s a woodland trail to discover key areas of interest and the wonderful wildlife of the countryside as well as an adventure playground for the kids.

Once you’re finished exploring, head into The Toy Museum with a collection of toys from Yootha Rose, stage designer, artist and royal toymaker, as well as toys from generations of the owners of the estate, the Sidney family, including many new ones from the present day owners.
Then finish off the day with refreshments at one of the estate’s restaurants: head to the Porcupine Pantry, one of Kent’s top 10 places for afternoon tea, or the Garden Restaurant which offers a selection of quality upmarket home-cooked style hot and cold lunch menus during the seasonal opening hours.
