Tommy Tiernan – Out Of The Whirlwind

Articulate, sharp, pushing the edges of danger with a gleeful sprite-like dance, Tiernan is – as always – a treat to behold. He has something of Billy Connolly’s comedy statesman about him, enjoying his craft without worrying for approval and striding off on tangents, confident in the knowledge he will find a seam of laughter at the end of it worth mining. Which he does. It is satisfying to spend an evening seeing a comedian enjoying himself so truly, choosing to please himself all of the time and only occasionally – but without regard – losing the full strength of his audience. Not that it mattered for this standing ovation performance.
