BREMF – Joglaresa: Daughters of Abraham

Joglaresa put on a great show with real crossover appeal for fans of folky, vocal-heavy acts like the Unthanks. The programme was varied, including Liz Fraser-type lilting singing from Sianed Jones and a rollicking rhythmic piece called ‘Angelus emittitur’ with deft percussion from Guy Schalom. Angela Hicks led most of the singing with a stunning, pure voice and is a young talent to watch out for. The second half was more sprightly, creating a great atmosphere but the guest choir was sadly not loud enough compared to the amplified main band. The storytelling was fun, but disrupted the musical momentum a little for this reviewer.
