BREMF – The Day of the Witches – Early Music Live!

Five ensembles from the BREMF young artists scheme filled the afternoon with a joyous selection of early music. Outstanding were ‘Palisander’, a recorder quartet who whipped up a thrilling set on tarantulas and tarantellas, and ‘Ceruleo’, an ensemble with two glorious sopranos (Emily Owen and Jenni Harper) who channelled the spirited divas of the Italian Baroque. Soprano Roberta Diamond and ‘Ensemble Molière’ gave us a taste of Versailles Baroque. ‘Duo Seraphim’ (countertenor & lute) kept to the theme with bewitching songs of love, sometimes too quick for clear diction. ‘Duo Luminarium’ (viola da gamba & harpsichord) played early classical suites.

CODA: Early Music Live! is the cornerstone of the BREMF educational programme giving a platform to the stars of the future.
