Rich Hall’s Hoedown

The American singer/songwriter/satirist Hall, returned to town to play the Brighton Comedy Festival. While there was a lot of old material seen in previous shows (riffing on the audiences’ names, hometown and occupations in songs) Hall did entertain with some new songs as well. His commentary on the forthcoming US elections involved ‘The Ballad Of Donald Trump’ and a witty piece on the comparison between the Baldwin Brothers acting family and the George and Jeb Bushes, “It’s the law of diminishing returns, people!” He proved his satire was as incisive, timely and cutting as ever with his bitter commentary on the current immigrant crisis with ‘The Eritrean Truckin’ Buddy’ song. Overall it was an enjoyable night, but we were left with the impression that this was a tired performer at the end of a tour. Having said that, the much-reduced set flew past and left us wanting more.
