Brighton Dome Organ Showcase – Michael Wooldridge (organ)

The Dome’s extraordinary organ can mimic almost anything: the largest cathedral organ, fairground instruments, brass bands, Big Bands and even rival a Hollywood Orchestra, yet all this is conjured up by just one very talented pair of hands and a few feet. It adds magic to big show tunes, like a bugle and tramping sound to the ‘Desert Song’ medley, tinkling snow for ‘Doctor Zhivago’ and a ground-shaking bass rumble for the Thunderbirds theme. Elsewhere I heard drums, castanets, tap-dancing, bells and cymbals. Michael Wooldridge’s easy manner introduced the various numbers and we enjoyed a couple of very entertaining hours.
