Duet For One

Brighton Little Theatre give a fine account of Tom Kempinski’s equally fine play. The cast, John Hartnett as Doctor Feldmann and Lyn Snowdon as Stephanie Abrahams, the violinist suffering from MS, give intelligent and exquisitely nuanced performances which break the heart and illuminate the play’s central theme: How do you go on living a life that has meaning when hope no longer exists? The play, which doesn’t offer any easy answers, is a slow burner, but begins to catch fire in the second scene when the gloves come off and the combat between psychiatrist and patient truly begin. The intimate space of the bar area is an ideal venue from which to observe the characters’ pain, struggle and redemption.
