Comedy: Celebrating the weekend at one of the best spots in town

Celebrating the weekend at one of the best spots in town

It’s the weekend! Well, the weekend’s practically here, just a few more days and we’ll have that all important couple of days off work and ready to laugh it up with friends, family and enemies alike. And you know where a surefire place is to go for those laughs? Krater Comedy Club at Komedia.
Krater has been about for such a long time it’s easy to take it for granted. We are spoilt in Brighton with the plethora of comedy night that have popped up and then popped down again, offering up everything from storytelling to musical comedy to science-based humorous cleverness, but the constant throughout it all is Krater.Stephen-Grant-1
Krater is award-winning in so many ways. As well as picking up its own gongs for being the best comedy club in the South East for 12 years from Chortle, resident compere backbone of Krater Stephen Grant has collected his own fair share of awards for being such an incredible MC. Now, if you think of the number of MCs up and down the country every weekend, and then add in the ones that pop up on the weekdays and the one-off nights too, that’s some kind of perspective as to how good Grant is, and how lucky we are to have him.

It’s also worth looking at the history of talent-spotting Krater has. I’ve personally seen Milton Jones, Rufus Hound, Seann Walsh, Zoe Lyons, Nina Conti and Jim Jeffries on Krater line-ups. Add to those the likes of Angela Barnes, Romesh Ranganathan, Brendon Burns, Joe Wilkinson, Micky Flanagan, Sarah Millican, Josh Widdicombe… the names just don’t stop piling up of heady successes that have been eagle-eye spotted on their ways up. And it works out well for us, as so many big name comedians keep coming back to Komedia and to Brighton because of the fond affection they have of their Krater times. I know – they’ve told me.
So what I guess I’m saying is, just because it’s always been there that doesn’t mean we should take it for granted. Krater is still fresh and with its finger firmly on the pulse, with some of the best names on the current circuit playing there each weekend. Frequent 2015 Krater flyers included Joe Lycett, Stu Goldsmith, Paul McCaffrey, Lloyd Langford, Zoe Lyons and Gary Delaney. This weekend’s headliner could be the next McIntyre. Or it could be McIntyre. I’m just saying, it’s a good night out.
