Comedy: ‘Tis the season…
‘Tis the season…
December is upon us, Christmas shopping is getting slightly more frantic, and sightings have been made of the Salvation Army carolling in front of Churchill Square. It is indeed the season to think of others, and also to get that warm feeling in your belly that says you’ve done something good that will make a difference to others. Enter Charity Chuckle, stage left.
Charity Chuckle has been going for years now, and every December they put together a cracking line-up of comedians to bring attention to the End Violence Against Women campaign, and to raise funds for charities Rise and Survivors’ Network. It’s a pull-out-all-the-stops brilliant evening, filled with warmth and laughter over at Komedia, with a brilliant bill.
The fifth annual 16 Days Of Action comedy benefit has attracted the great and the good. TV and radio favourite Angela Barnes heads up proceedings, joined by Funny’s Funny winner Sam Savage as Linda Larkin. Irish comic Gráinne Maguire, recently in the media for live tweeting her menstrual cycle to Ireland’s political head, will be bringing her sharp mirth to town too, as well as local comics Jane Postlethwaite and Louise Reay – both finalists in national comedy awards this year – and also Brodi Snook and Athena Kugblenu. All hosted with aplomb by award-winning comedian Suzy Bennett.
Add to this a raffle (last year’s prizes included a Best of Brighton & Hove hamper, cheese from La Cave á Fromage, and a turkey voucher from renowned butchers Canhams), and it’s the perfect night out with guaranteed laughter and the chance of a present you can take home. One you no doubt deserve after dedicating all that time to finding the perfect gifts for everyone else!
Seriously though, tickets go fast, so jump on them quicker still. It’s an incredible line-up of acts that are both on the rise and at the top of their game, raising money for some incredible charities. So let your ho, ho, ho-ing do good for all.
