South Coast Jazz Festival 2016: Gareth Williams and Dave Green; The Printmakers

Day two of the second annual South Coast Jazz Festival featured two excellent groups. First up was a tribute to the gentle pairing of Bill Evans and Scott La Faro performed exquisitely by pianist Gareth Williams and bassist Dave Green. Evans’ masterpiece ‘Waltz For Debby’ was perfectly executed although ironically not in ¾ time and both musicians proved themselves masterful devotees. The headliners were an ensemble assembled by pianist Nikki Iles and showcasing veteran vocalist Norma Winstone whose wide range and skillful scatting breezed through a set of Brazilian-flavoured well-chosen covers and originals of which Iles’ seascape ‘Tideway’ was a highlight.
