A Local Boy

Young playwright Dan Murphy’s latest piece is said to be based on the subject of identity. Following two police officers, two young men and a young woman on their daily journeys leading up to a murder within the community. A stunning performance from Jack Bence was the glue that held the piece together; a realistic portrayal of disenfranchised youth. Crissy O’Donovan and Bally Gill offered convincing depictions of police officers. Characterisation was somewhat lacking, however; clearly written from a young male perspective, most evident in the rape ‘joke’ early on in the play, and the two-dimensional representation of young woman Tina.
