Lee Scratch Perry

“Good but not exciting,” said my friend. Huge respect is due to Lee Scratch Perry for pioneering dub reggae and producing some of the greatest tracks of all time, including ‘Concrete Jungle’ by Bob Marley and ‘Police and Thieves’ by Junior Murvin: they were just missing the energy when he did them. ‘Disco Devil’ in the early part of the set was skanktastic, and his extraordinary moos, growls and 3-foot feather headdress were fantastic, but then the precision and good vibes were replaced with reggae jazz noodling. He’s 80 and “champagne is gonna ease my pain”. A good toast.
