Wolf Alice

The North London noiseniks have risen through the ranks to play their biggest Brighton show to date, complete with mega light show and a well-stocked mosh pit. With singer Ellie Roswell mostly static it was left to the guitarists to fill the stage with polished posturing and powerful riffs as they thrashed out shoegaze, Bangles-y pop-punk and 80s goth-influenced rockers from their debut album. Drummer Joel Amey sang lead on quasi-ballad ‘Swallowtail’ before the Nirvana-nicked ‘Moaning Lisa Smile’ closed the set. A heavy encore of Giant Peach ended with Roswell diving into the crowd. Good energy but a formulaic performance.
