Brighton’s Arty: The Art of Books

Digital media? Social media? Pah… life’s too short. You still can’t beat a good book. And at Phoenix gallery we’re excited to learn about the upcoming exhibition ‘Technology & the Evolution of the Artist’s Book’. Not the catchiest of titles, perhaps… but it promises a collection of boundary-breaking bookwork within a theatrical display space.

The show features contemporary artists from across the world who regard the book as an art form. For some, the material and sensory nature of the book is primary. For others, the image and the text carry equal weight. As a whole, the work embodies an experimental and daring approach to the field of artist’s books, and reveals some surprising ways in which artists utilise technologies, old and new, in the process of realising their vision. From 30 April to 12 June.
