Chicago
Chicago serves up hot, sizzling jazz with a side order of meaty loins and seriously fresh buns, with very little dressing. You don’t object to a bare set when it is adorned by Bob Fosse’s trademark choreography of jazz hands and thrusting pelvises. This satire of instant celebrity, driven by a sensationalist media, is still relevant today especially when you consider this production stars X-Factor winner Sam Bailey. The two leads Hayley Tamaddon and Sophie Carmen-Jones have a ball but in a musical peopled by beautiful, self-serving people, Neil Ditt provides welcome counterpoint as the cuckolded husband Amos Hart.
