Calexico
With the moon from the cover to recent record Edge Of The Sun a fitting backdrop, Arizona Tex-Mex-cum-indie-rock stalwarts Calexico let the Southern Gothic feeling flow over this enchanting set. Appropriately opening with Roka (Danza De La Muerte), Joey Burns and his Tucson seven-piece flitted effortlessly between cumbia shuffles, pure Spaghetti Western mariachi, country balladry and more straightforward West Coast rock. Eclectically accomplished, the constant tempo-changes and flirting with the shadows made for a captivating performance, a dazzling cover of Love’s Alone Again Or and haunting acoustic encore of Wash only adding to the wonderfully polished sheen.
