Demolition work begins on Brighton’s American Express wedding cake building

Demolition work on one of Brighton’s most famous post-war buildings has begun.

The old Amex House in Eastern Road is known affectionately as the Wedding Cake.

But after the firm opened new offices round the corner in John Street, the building has been largely vacant.

A temporary fence has now gone up around the site signalling the start of interior demolition work.

Exterior work is set to begin this summer.

But not everyone is happy with the Regency Society claiming the 1970s structure was the city’s finest post-war building.
