Boy Stroke Girl

‘Boy Stroke Girl’ is a didactic play about androgyny, not a provocative topic in Brighton. The predictable plot led to an unsurprising end with just a few jokes, little drama and lots of words. It’s a pity the ambiguous antagonist didn’t project them but preferred to mumble, except when expressing anger. The presentable protagonist Peter (a more demeaning and emasculating tag than even ‘John Thomas’) and the others in the cast were generally audible but would have performed just as well in an audio play, perhaps better because the ambiguity could have developed more completely in the audience’s mind’s eye.
