During the work experience week I have been able to take on many tasks which have allowed me to learn how a company in the media industry runs on a daily basis.

Monday

During my first day of work experience I started the day off by researching the weekends sport with Jamie who is Latest TV’s sport reporter. We researched sports such as football and cricket before gathering contact details of other sport teams in Sussex, these were mainly hockey and handball teams. After this I was shown how to write the news on the laptops and how it appears on the screen in front of them whilst they record their news sections. At 3pm I sat in the gallery watching the live news being recorded whilst being shown how they change the camera angles and see what is going to appear on the screen next.

Tuesday

On my second day of work experience I started at 10:30am due to staying late to film at an event. When I arrived I was able to take a camera along St James’ Street to ask people how they think England will do in the Euro’s. It took a bit of time as there wasn’t a lot of people who felt comfortable being recorded. After this I was able to take a camera around the pubs and bars in Brighton to ask them how they think England will do in the Euro’s, who they think will win the Euro’s and if they have seen an increase in business since the tournament began. In the evening I went to a table tennis event for refugees with the sports reporter Jamie to record some of the table tennis, interviews and the award being given to the table tennis club. This finished at about 7:30pm.

Wednesday

On Wednesday I was able to go to Preston Park at 11am to film at the Cycling Velodrome in Preston Park. We recorded an interview with one of the people who kept the velodrome open when it looked like it would be closed. Once we had finished this at about 11:20 we went back to Latest TV where I was able to edit the footage of the table tennis event from the evening before. The edit which I made should be shown on Latest TV’s sport section during early next week sometime.

Thursday

On Thursday I was able to go to the Sussex County Cricket Club as it was National Safety Day. There were a number of activities for Primary School pupils to learn about what to do if there was a fire, how to get to school safely and how to have a healthy diet. After this we went to King Alfred Leisure Centre for a similar event. This time the event was for people with learning difficulties for them to learn similar things.

Friday

On my last day of work experience I was able to start at 12pm due to the reporters being out filming things about the EU referendum. Shortly after arriving I was able to go down to Brighton seafront to film the beach and ask people their opinions on the EU referendum results. After this we was able to edit the piece to be shown in the news.
